Vmware tools on Debian Squeeze

Getting trouble installing VMware tools on Debian squeeze? No worries, there is an alternative under contrib repo on Debian where can solve any issues without a problem.

Just edit your sources.list file in case this is a new installation and adjust accordingly. An example is given below:

deb http://debian.otenet.gr/debian/ squeeze main contrib non-free
deb-src http://debian.otenet.gr/debian/ squeeze main contrib non-free

deb http://security.debian.org/ squeeze/updates main contrib non-free
deb-src http://security.debian.org/ squeeze/updates main contrib non-free

# squeeze-updates, previously known as 'volatile'
deb http://debian.otenet.gr/debian/ squeeze-updates main contrib non-free
deb-src http://debian.otenet.gr/debian/ squeeze-updates main contrib non-free

All you need then is to install a few packages:
apt-get install open-vm-tools open-vm-source open-vm-toolbox

and after that to solve a few module errors:
module-assistant auto-install open-vm -i

Done! Reboot and vmware open source tools are installed.
