How to find your BIOS version from Linux

If you are looking for your current BIOS version in order to upgrade it then all you need is one command.

Open a terminal and type:

dmidecode | head -n10

An example output will be:

[root@]# dmidecode | head -n10
# dmidecode 2.11
SMBIOS 2.5 present.
79 structures occupying 3022 bytes.
Table at 0x000F06F0.

Handle 0x0000, DMI type 0, 24 bytes
BIOS Information
    Vendor: American Megatrends Inc.
    Version: 0808  
    Release Date: 03/08/2010
