MySQL workbench under Debian Stable

Unfortunately there is no binary package for Debian Squeeze and you will need to compile mysql workbench from source. Let's start.

Download the latest release from
Untar the file and cd into it. Execute the configure script:

./ --prefix=/home/username/sources/mysql-workbench

Remember to adjust the prefix directory with what you like. After the command finish you'll see something like:

config.status: creating src/ctemplate/template_namelist.h
config.status: creating src/ctemplate/per_expand_data.h
config.status: creating src/ctemplate/template_dictionary_interface.h
config.status: creating src/config.h
config.status: executing depfiles commands
config.status: executing libtool commands
configure: WARNING: unrecognized options: --disable-dynamic
Now type `make' to compile.

As it says, just run make now and then make install. You wont need to be root to execute this assuming you used a prefix inside your home directory. If everything run without an issue you can run the binary from inside the bin folder of the prefix setup previously like ./bin/mysql-workbench
