Garmin forerunner on Linux

Do you own any of the Garmin forerunner GPS compatible devices? If yes, then you can completely replace Windows with Linux as upload on Garmin connect is fully working. All you need is 5 minutes from your time. If you have no clue about what Garmin connect is have a look here: http://connect.garmin.com/features. You will need Python installed into your distribution.

Garmintools (garmin-forerunner-tools package on Ubuntu) is where you need to start. Just install the package. It provides a tool for communicating with the GPS receiver over USB. It works with the older receivers (Forunner 305/Edge 305) and probably with the new ones. I've just tested on my own Forerunner 305.

Download the tar file from our cluster here. Untar the file, cd into the directory and edit the file upload.sh.

Into that file just replace two variables with your username and password on garmin connect and run the file:

./upload.sh
stelios@pappous:~/Downloads/garmin-dev> ./upload.sh
